The sunglasses

Our model starts from the classic “pantos” shape (which suits almost every face), which we've flattened slightly at the bottom of the lenses.
Lens width 49 mm, temple length 145 mm, bridge width 19 mm.
For use at the beach, in the city or in the low mountains. The lenses can be replaced by an optician if you need a prescription.
Most eyewear frames on the market are made of plastic. Cellulose acetate is derived from wood pulp and allows the temples to be adjusted.
Bonus: this material lets us develop rich shades, patterns (like tortoiseshell) and beautiful translucent colours.
The vast majority of sunglasses sold in France come from Asia. And that's a real shame, because in France there are still people who know how to make top-quality sunglasses — like Solf, the factory in Normandy, in northern France, with whom we developed this model.
The techniques behind the quality

The temples and the frame are usually connected by a hinge with 3 anchor points (also called "barrels"). To make this area stronger, we opted for a 5-barrel hinge.

German Carl Zeiss Vision® category 3 sun lenses, with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coatings. Like the vast majority of sunglass lenses, they are made of plastic resin (here CR39, a material that's lighter, more durable and cheaper than glass)

A quality classic
Made in France sunglasses when most are manufactured in Asia — pretty cool, right? And if you're going local, you might as well go for quality: Italian acetate, Zeiss category 3 anti-glare and scratch-resistant lenses, 5-prong stainless steel hinges. The shape? "Pantos," which suits almost every face shape. The verdict: classic, well-made sunglasses, perfect for climbing the red-carpet steps or knocking back mocktails.

... not everything comes from France? Most glasses are made in Asia. Ours are made entirely in France (over 80 operations in total). And for the rest, we chose the best quality and the closest sourcing: the Italians make great acetate, and the Germans make very good lenses.
How this product will age
How do we know? We ask our customers what they think of the product one year after they've bought it. And if the product is less than a year old, we give you our predictions based on some spontaneous feedback and on our experience with similar products.
The main weak point of glasses? The arms that break. To avoid this, we chose steel hinges with 5 barrels (instead of the 3-barrel ones sometimes used) and we tuck them into a hard case so they don't end up crushed in your backpack. The other weak point is scratches on the lenses. Ours have an anti-scratch coating, but it's not foolproof: always use a soft cloth to clean them – for example, the one we include. One last upside of these glasses: the acetate frame. If they ever warp a little, you can always readjust them by hand – for example with a hairdryer (as shown in this tutorial).
Care instructions
The arms of our glasses have only a slight curve, so they fit every head. But since the frame is acetate, you can easily adjust them by warming them up a little – here's a quick little tutorial for curving them easily with a hair dryer (and note that you can curve the arms both ways, vertically and horizontally).
Even though our lenses are treated to resist scratches, regular fabrics (or worse, paper tissues) can leave permanent marks. So always use a microfibre cloth to clean them. And don't keep them in the same pocket as your keys :)
Two final tips to make these glasses last:
1. After the beach, rinse them with clean water then dry them with this cloth: salt water can be corrosive for the hinges and damage the anti-reflective coating on the lenses.
2. If they're really dirty, massage (yes, you read that right) each lens with a drop of dish soap, rinse them, then dry them with the cloth.
Reviews for this product
The standard practice is to send review request e-mails a few days after the purchase. We wait a month, the minimum time needed to form a well-informed opinion
Customer review policy
When do you ask customers for reviews?
We send you a review request one month after you receive your order. We reckon that's the minimum amount of time needed to have worn and washed a garment several times and to really form a well-informed opinion. After that, all your reviews are published within the week, whether they're good or not.
Do you ask for reviews on 100% of the products customers order?
We used to do that at first, then we realised we were starting to send far too many emails to some people who buy from us regularly. In short, we were spamming a bit. On top of that, it was starting to take up way too much of the team's time to reply to reviews - since we want to reply individually and privately to almost every person who leaves us a review. Today, we no longer ask for reviews on products that meet the following two criteria: 1/ There are enough reviews shown on the site for people who want to buy to form a well-informed opinion about the product 2/ We've read enough reviews within the Loom team to understand how to improve the product for the next generation.
Hold your horses: what proves we don't tamper with reviews by slapping 5 stars everywhere?
Honestly: nothing, we're just giving you our word. Same as for everything else, by the way: where we manufacture, where our wool comes from, our lab test scores, and so on. The only times we might touch what you write are if your message contains spelling mistakes (and even then, quite a few slip past us) or if it's racist, homophobic, and so on (but that's never happened so far).
Asking for a review after a month isn't enough to know whether the clothes really are durable, is it?
You're right, which is why we send you another review request email a year after your purchase – we even ask for a photo to see how your garment has aged. The answers help us improve our clothes and provide information about "how this product will age" on our product pages. To avoid bothering our customers needlessly, we don't ask for these reviews on 100% of the products ordered: as soon as we have enough data to understand the areas for improvement, we stop asking for the one-year reviews.
