The wide-leg jeans
Released in October 2026
- 100% cotton, because there's no need for elastane if the cut is wide.
- Here, the cotton sadly isn't organic but is Regenagri-certified. We're aware this is a fairly loose label (not to say a bit bullshit), since it's based on a trajectory of improvement rather than a strict set of requirements. It's all our supplier had in stock for now – we're hoping to switch to organic cotton for the next production run. We'll tell you all about our struggles on this in a dedicated article soon.
- Our roomiest fit (without being baggy) with a leg opening of 22 cm for a size 31.
- If that's too wide for you, have a look at our straight-leg jeans instead.
The equivalent of a 500g/m2 density: this is a thick, fairly rigid denim, which gives it good durability over time.
We tested it a lot by wearing it: this weight is no problem for comfort thanks to the wide cut.
These jeans are made in Portugal, in the 5D factory we've been working with since 2019.
The techniques behind the quality
Stay blue
- The “raw” colour is achieved with what's known as a reactive dye: unlike most jeans, ours don't get lighter with washing.
- In detail: most jeans on the market are dyed with indigo: the particular thing about this dye is that it fixes onto the surface of the thread, but not into the core of the fibre. With washing, the indigo pigments are washed out and the blue gets lighter. Our jeans, on the other hand, have blue thread dyed all the way through with a reactive dye, designed to withstand washing.
Stay blue
Pre-washing
Pre-washing
These jeans are stabilised and pre-washed at the factory, so they won't shrink at home (with cotton clothes, most of the shrinking happens during the first wash).

The wide-leg jeans that stay blue
A wide, comfortable cut that lets us do without any elastane. And to keep your raw denim raw even after 50 washes, we used a special dye called a reactive dye, which colours the threads all the way through (unlike the indigo pigments in classic jeans, which only sit on the surface). Even in 5 years' time, you'll be able to slip them on for that meeting with your bank manager.
In detail
A blue that stays blue
The raw fabric was dyed with what's known as a reactive dye, so it won't fade over time. It'll stay blue, even after lots of trips through the machine.
Reinforced pocket bag
The pocket bag fabric is sturdy and the edge is reinforced with a binding (an extra strip of fabric) to stop it fraying over time.
Semi-automatic YKK zip
A zip developed by the leading Japanese brand, which stops your fly opening on its own: when the pull tab is folded down, the slider is completely locked. As soon as the pull tab is lifted up, the zip unlocks and the fly can be done up or undone.
Composition
100% cotton
Origin and certifications
- Making: Portugal
- Finishing: Italy
- Spinning, weaving, dyeing: Egypt
- Cotton: Greece, USA
...the spinning, the fabric and the dyeing aren't done in Europe?
Unfortunately, the dyehouse in Italy that had the know-how to dye denim with reactive dyes shut down while we were developing these jeans. Our Italian partner Candiani (who weaves our other jeans) turned to a more economically stable factory based in Egypt (more info in this dedicated article).
...they're made in Portugal and not in France?
Of course, producing in Portugal lets us sell for less. But it's also easier to get good quality there: in the 1980s, when France offshored its industry, Portugal strengthened its own. That said, others do manage to make very good wide-leg jeans that stay blue and are 100% made in France, like 1083.
...the cotton on this product isn't organic?
The cotton used for these jeans isn't organic but is Regenagri-certified.
How this product will age
How do we know? We ask our customers what they think of the product one year after they've bought it. And if the product is less than a year old, we give you our predictions based on some spontaneous feedback and on our experience with similar products.
- The colour won't fade in the machine: your raw denim will stay raw, even after 50 washes.
- Like all 100% cotton jeans, they'll stretch slightly as you wear them, tighten up a bit when you wash them, then stretch out a bit again as you wear them, in an eternal cycle, a blessed child.
- If after a while holes start to appear, take these jeans to a clothing repair shop right away: the pros will be able to fix it for around twenty euros.
- To all the cycling, motorbike, horse-riding and other mount-and-ride fans out there: these jeans are hard-wearing, but not indestructible either. If you tend to put holes in your jeans thanks to your trusty steed, try the brand Bolidster instead.
Care instructions
Do up the zip so you don't damage your other clothes, turn them inside out and wash at 30°C. Watch an episode of The Office or start listening to La chute de Lapinville while the machine runs. Then take these jeans out, shake them to get rid of the creases and hang them to dry legs up (so you don't have to iron them).
