The sunglasses

Our model is based on the classic “panto” shape (which suits almost every face), which we’ve slightly flattened at the bottom of the lenses.
Lens width: 49 mm, temple length: 145 mm, bridge width: 19 mm.
For use at the beach, in the city, or in the low mountains. The lenses can be replaced by an optician if you need a prescription.
Most eyeglass frames on the market are made of plastic. Cellulose acetate is derived from wood pulp and allows the temples to be adjusted.
Bonus: With this material, you can create rich hues, patterns (such as tortoiseshell), and beautiful translucent colors.
The vast majority of sunglasses sold in France come from Asia. And that’s a real shame, because in France there are still people who know how to make top-quality sunglasses, like Solf, the factory in Normandy with which we developed this model.
Techniques That Ensure Quality

The temples and the frame are typically connected by a hinge with three anchor points (also called "claws"). To make this area more sturdy, we opted for a hinge with five claws.

German Carl Zeiss Vision® Category 3 sunglass lenses, with anti-reflective and anti-scratch coatings. Like the vast majority of sunglass lenses, they are made of plastic resin (in this case, CR39, a material that is lighter, more durable, and less expensive than glass).

A high-quality classic
Sunglasses made in France when most are manufactured in Asia—that’s pretty cool, isn’t it? And if we’re going local, we might as well go for quality: Italian acetate, Zeiss Category 3 anti-reflective and scratch-resistant lenses, and 5-claw stainless steel hinges. The shape? “Pantos,” which suits almost every face shape. Bottom line: classic, well-crafted sunglasses—perfect for walking up the stairs or sipping mocktails.

... not everything comes from France? Most glasses are made in Asia. Ours are made entirely in France (more than 80 production steps in total). And for the rest, we’ve chosen the highest quality and the closest sources: the Italians make great acetate, and the Germans make excellent lenses.
How This Product Will Age
How do we know this? We ask our customers for their feedback on the product one year after purchase. And if the product is less than a year old, we provide our predictions based on some unsolicited feedback and our experience with similar products.
The biggest weakness of these glasses? The temples breaking. To prevent that, we’ve chosen 5-prong steel hinges (instead of the 3-prong ones sometimes used) and we slip them into a hard case so they don’t get crushed in your backpack. The other common problem is scratches on the lenses. Ours have an anti-scratch coating, but it’s not foolproof: always use a soft cloth to clean them—for example, the one we include with your order. One last advantage of these glasses: the acetate frame. If they ever get a little warped, you can always readjust them by hand—for example, with a hair dryer (as shown in this tutorial).
Care Instructions
The temples of our glasses are only slightly curved, so they’ll fit any head shape. But since the frames are made of acetate, you can easily adjust them by heating them up a bit—here’s a quick tutorial on how to bend them easily with a hair dryer (and keep in mind that you can bend the temples in both directions, vertically and horizontally).
Even though our lenses are treated to resist scratches, regular fabrics (or worse, paper tissues) can leave irreversible marks. So always use a microfiber cloth to clean them. And don’t put them in the same pocket as your keys :)
Two final tips to make these glasses last:
1. After a day at the beach, rinse them with fresh water and then dry them with this cloth: saltwater can be corrosive to the hinges and damage the anti-reflective coating on the lenses.
2. If they’re very dirty, gently rub (yes, you read that right) each lens with a drop of dish soap, rinse them, and then dry them with the cloth.
Reviews of this product
The standard practice is to send review request emails a few days after the purchase. We wait a month—the minimum amount of time needed to form an informed opinion.
Customer Review Policy
When do you ask customers for reviews?
We’ll send you a review request one month after we receive your order. We believe this is the minimum amount of time needed to have worn and washed an item several times and to form a truly informed opinion. After that, all your reviews are published within a week, whether they’re positive or negative.
Do you request reviews for 100% of the products ordered by customers?
We used to do that at first, but then we realized we were starting to send way too many emails to certain customers who shop with us regularly. In short, we were spamming them a bit. Plus, it was starting to take the team way too much time to respond to reviews—since we want to reply individually and privately to almost everyone who leaves us a review. Today, we no longer ask for reviews on products that meet the following two criteria: 1/ There are enough reviews posted on the site for potential buyers to form an informed opinion about the product. 2/ We on the Loom team have read enough reviews to understand how to evolve the product into the next generation.
Just a quick thought: What proof is there that we aren't manipulating reviews by giving 5-star ratings to everything?
Honestly: nothing—we’re just giving you our word. Just like with everything else, actually: where we manufacture our products, where our wool comes from, our lab test results, and so on. The only times we might edit what you write is if your message contains spelling mistakes (and even then, quite a few slip past us) or if it’s racist, homophobic, etc. (but that’s never happened so far).
Asking for feedback after just one month isn't enough to know if the clothes are really durable, is it?
You're right—that's why we send you another email asking for a review one year after your purchase—we even ask for a photo to see how your garment has aged. We use the responses to improve our clothing and to provide information on “how this product will age” on our product pages. To avoid unnecessarily bothering our customers, we don’t ask for reviews on 100% of the products ordered: as soon as we have enough data to understand where we can improve, we stop asking for reviews after one year.
